4Zmodo Z2212GY
By Terry Thomas
Had this setup for 2 weeks now and it works great. Very fast and easy to program.I would give 5 stars but after running on cruise it gets slightly out of sync with your settings.. (easy fix, edit your config, takes 15 seconds)For the money you will not find a better outdoor ptz camera.Image is sharp and clear colors are good.Night vision is the best I have seen on any ir camera.20x zoom is unreal..Mount it high enough to good the full range, while zooming in your image drops. For best results mount to a pole dropping from the top (a pole with a big U on the end), then you image will not be partially obstructed by your mount.

5Camera works fine if you set it up correctly
By FLDonna
This is my first PTZ camera and for the price it's fast, works great, night-vision is excellent, but there are things you need to know.First, you need to use the 3-5 amp power supply included with the camera. This camera pulls more amps than the 'normal' CCTV cameras. I have a 12v system, and my existing cameras only pull 1/2 -1 amp each. My Altronix power supply box which had 4 other cameras attached and rated 5 amps total was not enough. You need to keep this Zmodo on it's own power supply.Second, My existing video/power cable from my old camera in the attic was insufficient. That cable - a 100 foot premade power/video cable - could not handle the 3-5 amp load this camera required. I ordered a new 120 ft premade cable rated for the higher amps off Ebay after discussing what I needed with the seller who knows this stuff.RS485 control for the pan-tilt-zoom: you can use existing connecters if your premade cable has them or run 20 gauge wire and connect it to the back of the DVR. My DVR is Q-See and there is only 1 place to connect RS485. Multiple PTZ's can be daisy-chained to that same connection but I have not tried that.DIPS on the camera: Since this camera is the only PTZ in my system, I did NOT touch the dips. The defaults were Pelco-D, 2400 Baud, databit=8, stopbit=1, parity=none, address=1. The 'address' set on the dips on the camera MUST match the 'address' setting on the DVR for that camera. I have an 8 camera DVR, and I connected the video cable for this camera to channel 4, so insure the 'address' setting is correct ('001') under 'channel 4' in the PTZ setup on the DVR. Make sure no other channels have '001' for the address or the RS485 will be confused. Each PTZ camera needs to have it's own unique 'address'. I posted a picture of 'channel 4' settings. If the PTZ doesn't respond for some reason it seems to get 'stuck' when I played with the 'cruise' settings, so be sure to go back into 'cruise' and 'exit' out of there or the camera will be confused.UPDATE: I noticed that the camera loses focus at dusk and dawn. Maybe it gets confused turning on/off the night vision but it only takes a second to hit the zoom setting to correct this. I also notice the color is not as good as my other cameras even when I play with the color settings. But I am still happy with this camera.

2IR LED and QC Problems
By Davis P
Strengths:1) Lots of presets.2) Crisp image in daylight.3) Very good image at night, provided you can get it to focus.Weaknesses:1) Inexcusable repeated IR LED failure.2) Doesn't focus well in dark, when using IR LEDs.3) Cross-Threaded screws from factory.4) No Manual Focus.Overall Comments:BAD Quality Control problems with this model:1) 1st unit: IR LEDs completely failed within 7 days. (vendor replaced with new unit).2) 2nd unit: IR LEDs on one side failed at 5.5 months. (zmodo replaced with new unit).3) 3rd unit: assembled in such a way that dome is scraping and binding, so camera won't pan. (vender replaced with new unit).4) 4th unit: IR LEDs on one side have failed again, this time at 4.5 months. Installed 8/15/2012, failed 12/28/12. (RMA requested from zmodo to repair or replace).5) DIP Switches on unit don't match what's shown in documentation. Requires educated guesswork. This camera needs a way to disable Auto Focus and instead store Manual Focus setting in Preset Memory along with P/T/Z data.Updated 12/30/2012 to add disposition of 4th unit. This model (CM-Z2212) has been discontinued. I wonder why?STAY AWAY from it! Hopefully we can upgrade to CM-Z2213 to see if it's more reliable.
