2Complex setup, lousy instructions, will not operate correctly.
By Victor L. Hernandez
I bought this along with a full Zmodo system. This is the third Zmodo system I have bought in the last two years, overall they all work very good and although there is still some pending programming to make these systems more consumer friendly, other than those out-of-the-box systems out there, I haven't found an easier system to work with.As to the PTZ camera. It is sturdy, looks well designed and comes in good packing, it does give you ample warnings as to not carry the camera by the cables as you will ruin it.I installed the camera in one corner of my house where it should be able to see all of my driveway, garage, the little walkway to the front door and even cars approaching, etc. Since I have a gate. I also liked the fact that it has a zoom so I can see who is at the call box, also, it can see license plate numbers. Not that I live in a dangerous area, but more that I travel a lot and I want to know who I can let in through the gate remotely.I bought Zmodo premade wires that have the BNC end and power. I also bought enough 18 gauge cable to accompany the cable from the camera to the DVR as to allow the camera to function its point to zoom. One disappointment is that the camera is not particularly mated to any Zmodo DVR. I expected to buy everything Zmodo to make installation easier, but in truth you basically have everything branded Zmodo though you have to set everything manually. There's even some dip switches that you have to check so that they work with your DVR settings, or adjust your DVR settings as to the dip switches. Nothing that is too complex at first, until you realize that the instructions barely provide any detail. My camera is about 85' away from my DVR if not more. The only premade wire was a 150' wire. In my first go, the camera did not work at all. I had the DVR and the rest of the cameras working, but nothing as to the PTZ. Thinking that it was the wiring, we changed the wires with another 150' premade wire. This time the camera showed video and the camera began an eternal "pan check". Whenever I tried to do anything with the dvr's control I would get no response whatsoever. Again up to the attic, up the crawl spaces, and redo the 18 gauge wire. Nothing came any better out of it. Again up the ladder to check the dip switches, photograph them, try to mate with the dvr settings. Nothing again. The "pan check" persisted, so I though that it was a way of the camera to do some preset checks before it would function. I left it alone, and now to my surprise the camera sends a very poor flickering video in black and white :( in day time.I tried logging on the Zmodo website to obtain support, nothing in the weekends (I work within the week and I can't take a day off to set this camera right). I called their support number, after 42 minutes of a cordial recording message telling me that I was on hold for a rep, I realized they probably don't even work on weekends.I'm frustrated. Paying top Dollar for a nice looking PTZ camera, for which I bought a new Zmodo system and cameras, and cables, spent two weekends to setup, and nothing.I guess either the wire is too long, or the Zmodo power source is too far away (yes it has its individual 12v 5A) so it can power it. I have switched the polarity of the RS485 cables to see if that was the problem and still, nothing. Now my camera is about 20' high and I need to get someone to help me with the ladder, etc. So, I'm at odds with Zmodo on this one.I just don't understand why they won't make a PTZ camera that can just hook up to your Zmodo DVR with nothing but installing and connecting cables.I don't know, maybe I received a bad unit. Its terrible to find out it doesn't work right when its installed in such a high place. Yes sure, should have tested it when it was down... it appears I relied too much on a company's quality controls. Now wouldn't it be awesome that I could recant this review if Zmodo cares and has a service rep help me set this camera up correctly? I really prefer this camera working as it intended to than to leaving a bad review of what is surely a company full of hard working people. Problem is, hopefully they would mind enough to have support for those of us that can only set these things up in the weekends!

Missing alot of the expected things like. Cables, documentation, information, phone support, net support.Everything is missing except for their sales ad.Snap!I want to pull the plug on this company before it rips other people off. I want a full refund, of all the Zmodo purchases I have made the mistake of ordering on Amazon in recent months, totaling just under $600.00.I demand an answer from Zmodo or Amazon. or both. I want my Money back!

3interestingly complex product ZMODO PTZ
By have used -1- so far
i agree totally with the other post on here about this cameraours seems to work but getting it to do so was like dividing the Red Sea(as in very tough for mere mortals)i highly suggest anyone getting this set it up on a testbench with all the wires connected and see if you canget it to function and respond FIRST before setting the unitat a post or mount. it's that much of a hassle.the unit is 485 PTZ control wire technology so you have toget that correctthen there is a complex enter code sequence which has tobe sent to the camera from controller to get into the camerasystem programnone of this is well documented by the totally minimalliterature which comes with the camera and the factoryis in Asia so....you know you're on your own.i think the videos now up on YouTube show how similarPTZ cameras are programmed and those might be morehelpful than the user guide.still, despite all this, ours has been working for over a yearin an exposed wall mount on our building through 110F headand -10F cold ice snow rain and i have to say it's a qualifiedsuccess... if the Zmodo people had any brains at all in themarketing and customer support area they could sell alot more of these... the camera lens resolution isn't extrahigh end but the extreme zoom ability allows you to getreally close to a far image or location. maybe the next genof this camera will be an IP POE version? that might bean improvement for most of us.
