Intriguing but pic quality not perfect

Have looked at a few IP camera's to monitor a home. Tried a few brands but decided to stay with Axis as the quality of their software and camera's seem much better than many others. Wanted to install the product either in a hallway or at an eye level outside of the house to spot intruders.Have had the encoder and camera for a week now but am a bit disappointed in the camera quality. Also ordered an Axis M3114-VE and there is a big difference in image quality. The effective range of the camera to recognize faces is not far (approx 5 feet) so the person needs to be very close to the camera for it to make a difference. Not that good for low light purposes.The camera itself is fairly tiny and has a decent amount of cord that clicks into the encoder. The cord connects to the encoder with a small headphone type plug leaving the analog connection open but I assume (have not tested out) if one is connected that only one camera would work. Encoder itself is also tiny (fits in hand) and can be installed out of sight without a problem. The camera does not have an indicator that shows what the top is, so you need your computer next to you to make sure that the image is not sideways or upside down.Although the size of the item and camera are appealing I think I will return the product and either get another M3114 or buy an M1031-W/M1054 and hide both by building some contraption around it so that the camera is not immediately seen by crooks coming into the house. a 1megapixel picture is nowadays so much better than the older analog ones. Can't go back in time anymore..If, however, you are looking to hook your existing analog camera to this one so you have access through the internet than this one is your encoder. It has the standard axis software to connect with your network or over the internet. You can order the encoder without camera and it will be cheaper but for a few bucks more you will have a handy little camera that you can use to get to small spaces. I have seen these being used to monitor bird houses and other animal related surveillance. For that I think this would be a great product as it will be difficult to get a camera that is waterproof and as small as this one.I am giving it 3 stars since the quality of the software and the build quality is good. Don't expect too much from the camera though. Also don't forget to buy a POE injector as otherwise you won't be able to turn it on. I bought the TP-Link AC TL-PoE150S PoE Injector for approx $23. Works well with this product and is also pretty small.Still looking at some type of software, either through a NAS or a dedicated PC, to record multiple camera's. Looking now at NAS viostar for 8 camera's, anyone had some experience/recommendations with those?
