5Great camera for the price!
By NJLocoman
I purchased this Swann PTZ camera about 3 weeks ago and corner mounted it using a LORAX mount. This camera is great. Picture quality is very good for the price, and the camera works very well at night. There is no IR illumination with this camera, but it works very well in low light. Daylight picture quality is also very good. For the price, it's well worth it. Easy to install, and basically plug and play. Includes remote and target for controlling the camera, but I was able to easily connect the camera to my Defender DVR. Works remotely from my iPhone or computer connected home via the internet.

5Great camera with easy plug and play install
By Jared Townsend
All in all I am very happy with the product and also with Swann. I have the 8 channel Swann D1 DVR recorder with 4 of their stationary night-vision Pro series cameras and was very happy with it. I'm so glad I didn't go with a system that requires power outlets for each camera (Logitech). Yes, running the BNC cables provided with the cameras (video and power) through my attic and down the wall to my DVR was not trivial (some swearing was involved for sure) but once you're done and you see the camera mounted under your eaves (ran the cables out the vents without having to drill any holes in my exterior) with no wires or anything protruding you'll realize it's well worth it.As for the camera, I am glad I chose to pay a little more and get a Swann brand not just because of the quality but if you have a Swann DVR it is very easy to set-up and Swann customer service is amazing if you do have any problems. Just a few quick points. If you have a Swann DVR with the PTZ ports already on it you will NOT need to use the PTZ controller or the wiring harness provided with this camera. Basically, there is no wiring required so disregard that portion of the instructions. TooK me a few minutes to figure that out. All you need do is connect the DVR end of the BNC cable (they give you a 60 foot cable by the way) to the power, video (you'l likely not need the attached video prong adapter either) and DVR PTZ port. For the PTZ port, if your DVR is equipped like mine just remove the little green plastic receptacle and use a small regular screwdriver to open the two metal receivers inside the recpetacle. Insert each PTZ prong into the correct slot (I believe the purple goes into the "A" side and the lighter whitish purple goes into the "B" side). Then tighten the receptacles so the wires are secured properly. Plug the receptacle back into the DVR with the wires attached a voila.Another thing not really specified in the instruction is that, assuming you've got the camera connected properly, once you turn it on it will do an automatic scan which is pretty cool to see for the first time. However, if you've selected a channel for the camera other than channel 1 on your DVR slots, you will need to adjust the Device settings. You have to go into the device then PTZ then change the channel to the channel the PTZ camera is installed, here's the confusing part. If you select channel 5, the address of the camera also gets changed to channel 5 by default. You have to change the address back to 1 in order for it to work. Don't ask me why this is just what I had to do but it took a good 20 minutes with tech support to figure it out. Also, with my DVR I had to adjust the frame-rate to 2400 so you may need to figure out which setting is required for your system. Lastly, if mounting the camera outside (even under an eve) I would strongly recommend you follow the instructions and dab a bit of exterior clear caulking on each of the threaded screws provided to attach the camera dome to the mounting bracket. Even though the screws come with o-rings I can definitely see how the seals would compromise eventually and you do NOT want moisture getting into the dome assembly. As for the PTZ controls, they were great locally from the DVR system itself but when controlling remotely on your smart phone or PC there is definitely a lag depending on your bandwidth and connection speed. Even so, I've found I am still more than able to use this camera to keep an eye on my property while away. The only thing I wish Swann would come up with is remote accessible loudspeaker that could either come attached to the camera or be installed separately. This way, one can not only see what's going on, but you could also intervene. Might come in handy if you see your pet ripping out your garden or a burglar in the process of making a getaway with your valuables. Just my two cents.
